IELTS Writing 2 - Agree and Disagree

Questions:

Some people believe that technology has made man more social. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?


Answer:

There is a notion believe that technology has created people to be more social. Even though it has been proven that the technology such as social media has connected millions of people online, I personally believe that social media contributes loneliness and mental health to its users.

To begin with, the advance of information and technology has eased the communication. It connects people 24 hours regardless of distance and geographical borders. Not only finding new friends but also it reconnect old friends, and through its group feature, it facilitate discussion among the community.

However, there are some reasons why I believe the negative impact of social media surpass the benefit it offers. Firstly, there are various studies uncover the contribution of social media to loneliness. As people spend more time on screen, the time for meeting or talking directly has significantly reduced. Even at desk where usually people talking each other has been replaced by the business of replying messages or simply playing games or scrolling social media feed.

In addition, constant and easy access of communication is a fertile ground of bullying, scam, or fraud that also affect mental health of its users. This is especially vulnerable for children who prone to bullying and elderly who has a weaker digital literacy that can be manipulated easily by the cheater.

Furthermore, there is a concerned of data privacy that might be leaked or hijacked. Prime example is when one institution has stolen the information of facebook to favor politician to win in the United States election.

In conclusion, social media has eased the communication of people. However, if used excessively, there are plenty of negative impacts that can harm the users.

  Question: The diagram below shows the process for recycling plastic bottles. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. Answer: The flowchart illustrates the process of plastic bottles recycling. In general, the process of recycling involves at least 9 steps from collecting the bottle all the way to ready to use products such as fabrics or a new plastic. It all starts from waste bin where all waste is collected. The content of waste bin is carried using truck to recycling centre where waste is sorted according to its type. At this point, plastic bottles are collected then compressed into blocks to ease the transportation. These blocks then transported to another plant where the plastic blocks are crushed and washed. This makes plastic clean and smaller in size that ready to be used as ingredient of producing plastic pellets. In order to create raw material, the plastic pellets are heated to from in a special shape.
